Research in the Social Sciences is like Strategy in Business, as sometimes the focus is on Red Ocean where similar ideas compete for attention and replicate insights with small modifications that lead to confusion from time to time. This is a research market where competitors bloody each other, fighting for market share in the same frameworks. Researchers go about dismissing each other or supporting each other, citing each other, and thus reinforcing their networks or putting other networks down by disagreeing with them etc.
But there's also the Blue Ocean of Innovation, where some Paradigm Shift takes the Knowledge of a specific field to a new horizon, and the insights are so profound and comprehensive that the perspectives offered become very influential and move the entire domain to think differently, and new buzz words born of this new prospective, or ways of seeing things, abound and pervade the whole literature. A sense of new direction is felt throughout by tackling the problematic of the field in an inclusive way, meaning the whole boat is stirred to look at Blue Waters, even though details are still being worked out in Red Waters. The innovation opens up the horizon of the Blue Ocean and the domain is changed forever, with potential breakthroughs in the uncharted waters of the Blue Horizon.
But now, with changes growing so fast, there's the Blue Skies Knowledge Research as well as Strategy, where new Perspective and Prospective take an elevated approach to the Sky with a Larger Vision of whatever is going on, in an Interdisciplinary way. In that new Stance, from way up there, developments may be analyzed in different fields, White Clouds Ideas Seeds are obtained in the Clouds of Connections, also as they come together and influence each other, and many horizons can be scanned at once. Thus, with Big Data, new directions toward the future may be scrutinized and even be foreseen, and the insights are born from a better understanding of Contexts altogether...
